Myth About Websites For Businesses At Any Stage

Getting back on the subjects of websites for any business owner, I wanted to cover a myth many believe. Especially when getting a business started. What is that myth? Your business has to be "big" or a certain status to have a website, even a well built out one.

When I asked one of my past clients what did they mean by that, they responded they were not "big enough" or have a lot of information to put into a website. So they didn't think they had anything to offer to make the website worthwhile. Also, they thought having an elegant and professional design website seemed unrealistic to them. As if they didn't deserve it. Thankfully I changed their mind on that.

Also, I'm here to say this! You don't have to be "big", "selling the most", or anything that makes you feel like you don't deserve to have a website, to have one!

One of the things I believe business owners fear is once they have a website created that it's set in stone and cannot be touched after that. However, not having one when a business is starting can hurt it because it makes it harder for them to be seen online. People are looking for services or products you offer, so you show up where they are looking for you at!

Also, to help the search engine rank your website better it helps if it has been online over time and updated regularly to show that it's active. Search engines rarely rank a website high that is not consistently active. Even ones that don't look great or professional can rank high on Google because they either been online for a long time or active. Have you ever stumble on a website that was ranked high on Google for something you were searching for and the site as meh at best? It can happen.

Also, if you look at some websites and break it down, there isn't a lot of information on let's say on the home page. Just key information about who they are, what they do, and why it matters most of the time. Don't let that stop you from creating your website. Look at these for example:

(Simple websites with their word counts on the time page)

Remember, a website is an alive and dynamic branding tool meant to be updated and improved over time. You don't need a lot to get started with a website. I would rather you have a plan website for your business than have nothing at all because more than ever now your business needs to be online. Even if you cannot afford a customize website right away, maybe start with a template design like from Squarespace. Save 10% off your first subscription of a website by using the code PARTNER10. I use them for some of my clients and even customize them as well for different branding projects.

You have to start somewhere, and if you are only using social media to promote your business take a look at this article here. It shows why it's dangerous to only use that as a way for people to find about your business.

What do you think? Am I wrong or do you think no matter what stage a business is at it should have a website? Let's talk about it 👇🏽
