5 Key Elements Of A Branding Strategy

Not every branding strategy should be the same for every business out there. However, each business should know and have these 5 key elements to create
an effective branding strategy.

First, here is how I describe branding - the method of forming a unique, distinctive brand through various touchpoints. Just know how you visually present your business in any way (visually, audio, tone, mood) is branding. It’s an action you take to shape the perception of your brand in the minds of your ideal clients!

Now that you know what branding here are the key elements needed to create a branding strategy for your business:

  • Brand purpose - Why you do what you do. What impact it will have on your clients, community, or the world? (has to be beyond making money)

  • Brand Values - What you stand for. What values do your brand and customers have in common? What values are incorporated in everything you do and consistently? Trying to be everything to everyone leads you to make poor branding decisions. Being clear on these will help attract like-minded clients who want to be apart of the brand.

  • Brand personality - What your brand would be if it were a person. Knowing the personality of a brand will help you know how to communicate the words and tone toward your audience. If your brand is sophisticated but it comes off informal that can confuse your audience as to how you want them to know the brand and its offer. The more descriptive you are about the brand’s personality the clearer your audience will know and understand the brand. 

  • Brand Position - How your brand’s products and services go beyond what others are doing in the same market. Tell and provide proof of the functional and emotional benefits your customers can expect.  

  • Brand Identity - How your brand will be recognized on your touchpoints you communicate through. This is accomplished with the tangible design assets your customers will see like the logo, color, typography, and so on. Having all those assets strategically designed and consistently use is key to bringing alive your brand purpose, values, personality, and position.
