What Is Branding For Your Business?

If you want your business to succeed, branding is non-negotiable to have. However, what should branding look like for you? What is it you need to have it? Let’s talk about it.

Here is how I describe branding - the method of forming a unique, distinctive brand through various touchpoints. There are more ways to describe it, but I want to know how you visually present your business, and even at times in an audio way, is branding. It’s an action you take!

Having a logo created and using in print or digital, creating your brand story and presenting it, and marketing your brand is all branding. It’s important to know as well that branding is not a one and done thing. Branding is a practice of repeated actions done over the lifetime of the business. Especially to reach your ideal clients, build trust with them, convert them into buyers, and create a tribe that will promote your brand.

Why is branding important for you?

If you have a business, you want your ideal clients to choose you out of the masses, right? Branding helps you do just that by:

  • Making you stand out from the competition

  • Building Brand Recognition

  • Creating a consistent brand experience

  • Creating an emotional connection with your ideal client that can turn them into a loyal customer

You want to encourage your ideal clients to come to the right conclusion that you are the right brand for them. Also, you want to make sure that you are attracting the right clients for you too, and not the wrong ones. (Some of us are attracting the wrong clients, and that can hinder our business… another blog post at another time.) Using branding will help you control how your brand is being perceived and not by chance. If you want your brand viewed in a certain way there’s work you have to do to cultivate it. I know it can seem like a lot of work to maintain a business overall, but branding is apart of your business as well. From the way your business looks online (website, social, etc) to the online virtual meetings with people or even in person, all have to match to create a cohesive and consistent brand experience.

You can create great branding for your business that is consistent across any touchpoints your ideal customers engage with your brand with the following: (suggested overall pieces you should have)

  • Brand strategy

  • Brand guidelines

  • Brand identity

  • Website

  • Brand collateral

If you want to ensure your branding is easier to implement I suggest beginning with brand strategy. A brand strategy helps to connect how the brand, customers, and goals overlap each other. A road map can be created from this to document a plan for business success, a way to solve problems, schedule, brand attributes, design direction, and more. So when you are branding and marketing your business you’re not throwing darts in the dark, hoping for something to land on the target. A plan in place is needed to execute your branding well.

This is just an overview I hope to make what branding is, why you need it, and how you can use it. Making it easier to understand. There’s so much more to it, but having some basic understanding can help you start analyzing your brand and what you can do to make it better or easier. If you have any questions I’m an email away.
